Florida Bass Fishing January 2023

Florida Bass fishing in January can be tricky at times due to unexpected cold fronts. When you book with us you get our vast local knowledge and expertise on how to catch these Florida bass even when the weather turns foul.

The Kissimmee Chain of Lakes are most susceptible to drastic temperature changes when a severe cold front hits, whereas the Winter Haven South Chain with it’s deeper waters and vegetation offer better chances of landing that trophy bass. Most guests that may have booked out at Camp Mack choose to move their trip over to Winter Haven based on our advice when the temps really fall fast. That is not always the case if people do not have transportation besides their motorhome and in those instances we still fish the big lakes but much slower and more deliberate.

As of today we are catching good fish on both sets of lakes with Winter Haven having a slight edge fishing directly after a front. When the water temps on the Kissimmee Chain get back to 62-64 degress+ those fish are becoming more active and we’re catching them on spinnerbaits in open water, frogs, flipping, and of course wild shiners.

The biggest benefit to fishing Winter Haven on or after a cold front is that the lakes are smaller and less wind-blown, they are deeper with heavy vegetation, they are spring-fed, all of which gives us more options for fishing. For artificial baits deeper jerkbaits, belly weighted flukes, heavier swim jigs, and wacky rigged senkos are all producing well. And of course, the bass are still eating shiners.
